Tihar Jail Cell No. 3 at 8 am in the hanging of Afzal

New Delhi (INDIA):  Afzal Guru hanged in 2001 Parliament attack case. Reliable Sources say that Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail on Saturday at 8 am. President gave consent to home ministry's recommendation seeking death for him. The mercy plea of Afzal Guru was rejected few days ago, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony said.

Noted that the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee approved 2001 Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru's execution on Saturday.According to TV reports, home ministry has confirmed that Afzal Guru has been hanged.

A curfew has been clamped in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

In December 2001, five heavily-armed terrorists drove into the Parliament complex and opened fire.

Nine people were killed, most of them members of the security forces. The terrorists were shot dead.

Both houses of Parliament had just been adjourned and several MPs were still inside.

A year later, four accused, including Afzal Guru, were arrested for the attack and found guilty after a trial.
